Screen, voice and camera recorder
Screen recorder
Record your computer screen, a program window or a browser tab right in the browser, with nothing to install. Record the computer's sound and your microphone too, preview the result, then download it. Your picture and sound are not sent anywhere. It works on computers (phones are not supported).
This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this note after a few seconds, the browser has JavaScript switched off or the page did not load fully. Switch JavaScript on or reload the page.
How to use
- Choose the sound to record (the computer's or the tab's, and/or your microphone), the quality and the file type, then press "Start recording".
- The browser opens its own window for choosing what to share: the whole screen, a program window or a browser tab. Choose one and press "Share". If you want the computer's or the tab's sound, tick "Share audio" in that window too.
- Recording starts at once. The clock counts the time and the file size, and "Pause" lets you rest. While you record, the browser keeps a "sharing your screen" bar in view.
- Press "Stop and watch" (or "Stop sharing" on the browser's bar). Sharing stops at once and you can play the recording in the player below. If you like it, press "Download": the file is called freesabai-screen-date-time.
Nothing leaves your device
The screen and sound you record stay in your browser. They are not uploaded to freesabai's server or anyone else's, they are not saved anywhere until you press Download, and they are gone when you close the page. We ask for the screen share and the microphone only when you press Start. The browser makes you choose what to share every time, and everything is switched off as soon as you stop or leave the page. Mind what is on your screen (passwords, notifications, email) before you record. The website only counts how many times this page is opened and how many times a result is saved (it never sends a file name, size or content, and you can switch the counting off at the foot of the page; see the privacy policy).
Good to know
- It works on computers in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (Mac). Phone browsers (Android, iPhone) do not let a web page record the screen, so it does not work there. Use the screen recorder built into the phone (iPhone: Control Centre > Screen Recording; Android: quick settings > Screen recorder).
- The computer's sound: Chrome and Edge on Windows can share the system sound when you share the "whole screen" and tick "Share system audio". When you share a "tab" you always get that tab's sound (tick "Share tab audio"). On Mac and Linux only a tab's sound is possible. Firefox and Safari cannot share sound. For your own voice, choose "My microphone".
- If you choose both the computer's sound and the microphone, the tool mixes the two together. Wear headphones so that the microphone does not hear the speakers again.
- The file is a type your browser can write. Chrome, Edge and Firefox give WebM (plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and VLC, but Windows Media Player and most iPhones cannot play it directly); Safari gives MP4. The text under the file type list says what opens each kind. For a file that opens everywhere, use a video converter to turn it into MP4 (H.264).
- A long screen recording takes a lot of memory ("Normal" quality is about 30 MB a minute). The tool keeps the video in pieces of one second and warns you as the file grows (about 600 MB). Chrome and Edge on a computer have a "Save to a file while recording" option that writes straight to disk, so you can record as long as the disk has room.
- If you close or reload the page while recording, what has not been saved is lost. The browser asks before it leaves the page.
- If the browser does not let you choose a screen: on a Mac, allow the browser to record the screen in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, then restart the browser.
- The WebM files this makes carry their length, so players can show how long they are and let you skip around.
