How to use it

  1. Pick a category, such as length, area or weight.
  2. Type a number in the box of the unit you have. Thousands separators and Thai digits are fine. The other boxes update at once.
  3. Choose the unit for the big result and press "Copy" to take the whole line.

How it is worked out

Every unit of a category goes through one base unit (metre, square metre, gram, litre, metre per second, byte) with the factor from its definition, for example 1 inch = 0.0254 m and 1 pound = 453.59237 g. Temperature uses °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 and K = °C + 273.15. Results are rounded to 10 significant digits, so you never see leftovers like 0.30000000000000004.

Thai units: 1 rai = 4 ngan = 400 square wa = 1,600 m², 1 square wa = 4 m², 1 wa = 4 sok = 2 m, 1 chang = 20 tamlueng = 80 baht = 1.2 kg, 1 baht = 4 salueng = 15 g. For land, the rai, ngan and square wa converter takes rai-ngan-wa directly and works out a land price.

Questions and answers

How many grams is one baht of gold?

One baht of gold bullion is 15.244 g and one baht of gold jewellery is 15.16 g. The baht of the old Thai weight scale is 15 g. Each has its own box here.

Why does 1 MB have two values?

MB in steps of 1,000 is 1,000,000 bytes, while MiB in steps of 1,024 is 1,048,576 bytes. Windows uses the second but writes MB. This page shows both.

Why do results have at most 10 digits?

Results are rounded to 10 significant digits and trailing zeros are dropped, which hides the tiny errors of computer arithmetic without losing any useful precision.
