GPA and GPAX calculator

Enter the credits and grade of each subject for the term's GPA, the credits and GPA of each term for the cumulative GPAX, and a target to see what average the remaining terms need. Decimals are cut, not rounded, the way Thai schools and universities do it.

How to use it

  1. Box 1: enter the credits and pick the grade of each subject in the term. The result updates as you type; press "Add a subject" for more than 8.
  2. Box 2: enter the total credits and the GPA of each term so far (from your transcript) for the cumulative GPAX.
  3. Box 3: enter the GPAX you want and the credits still to come; the tool gives the average grade needed (from box 2 when it has numbers, otherwise box 1).

How it is worked out

GPA = the sum of (credits × grade) ÷ the total credits. Thai grades are 4.0 (A), 3.5 (B+), 3.0 (B), 2.5 (C+), 2.0 (C), 1.5 (D+), 1.0 (D) and 0 (F). The cumulative GPAX is worked out the same way over the credits of every term, not by averaging the terms' GPAs (a term with more credits weighs more). Two decimals are shown cut, so 2.499 is 2.49, not 2.50, as transcripts and most admission systems do.

The grade needed = (target × all credits − the grade points so far) ÷ the credits still to come. Above 4.00 means the target cannot be reached with those credits.

Questions and answers

How is the GPA worked out?

Enter the credits and the grade of each subject. The tool adds credits × grade, divides by the credits, and shows two decimals cut, not rounded (2.499 is 2.49), as a Thai transcript does.

What is the difference between GPA and GPAX?

GPA is one term; GPAX is the cumulative average of every term, weighted by credits. Enter each term's credits and GPA in the second box. Thai university admission (TCAS) uses six terms of upper secondary.

What grade do I need to reach a target GPAX?

Enter the target and the credits still to come in the third box. The tool gives the average grade you need over those credits; above 4.00 means it cannot be reached. Nothing is sent or kept.
