Countdown timer

Count down for an exam, a meeting, a talk, a break or a live stream game. The digits are big enough for the back of the room, full screen fits a projector, and when time is up an alarm keeps ringing until you stop it.

How to use it

  1. Type hours, minutes and seconds and press "Start" (or Space), or tap a quick button, 1 3 5 10 15 or 30 minutes, to start at once.
  2. While it runs, "Pause" and "Resume" as you need and "+1 min" adds time. The tab title shows the time left, so you see it from other tabs.
  3. When time is up, the alarm repeats and the screen flashes until you press "Stop alarm" (or Space or Esc); "+1 min" then runs one more minute.
  4. "Full screen" leaves only the digits and the ring, ready for a room screen or a recording.

Right on time, even in another tab

The time left is worked out from your device's clock against the moment you pressed start, not by counting the page's timer ticks. Browsers slow down pages in the background, but the time does not drift. While counting, the page asks the screen to stay on where the browser allows it.

Counting up instead, such as lap times for a run? Use the online stopwatch. Timing answers in class? Pair it with the random name picker.

Questions and answers

Does it stay accurate in another tab?

Yes. Time is measured against the clock from the moment you started, not by counting ticks. A background tab may delay the alarm sound until you return; the tab title shows the time left.

Does it make a sound when time is up?

An alarm repeats until you stop it and the screen flashes. Some phones stay silent in silent mode, so try it once before you rely on it.

Will the screen turn off while counting?

Where the browser supports it, the timer asks the screen to stay on (Wake Lock). Other browsers may dim the screen as usual, but the time stays correct.
