Markdown preview
Type Markdown on the left and see the result on the right at once. Headings, bold, lists, task lists, tables, code, quotations and links, the GitHub (GFM) way. It is safe: HTML or a script put into the Markdown is shown as text and never run. Copy the result as HTML. It runs in your browser.
This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.
A big file, kept out of the box:
In the preview, HTML put into the Markdown is shown as text, links cannot be clicked (hover to see the address) and pictures show as their description, for safety.
How to use it
- Type or paste Markdown on the left (or press "Open file" and choose a .md file). The preview appears on the right at once.
- Tick "A line break wherever you press Enter" if one Enter should be a line break (as in GitHub comments).
- Press "Copy as HTML" to take the HTML, or "Download .html".
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to paste Markdown that has HTML or scripts in it?
Yes. This tool never turns the HTML in Markdown into HTML. The preview is built only from a set of allowed elements (headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, code, bold, italic) with createElement and textContent. HTML put in, such as <script> or <img> with an onerror handler, appears as text, and links with javascript: or data: lose their address.
Why can I not click a link in the preview, and why do pictures not show?
On purpose, so the preview never takes you anywhere or loads anything from another site without your knowing (loading a picture tells that site your address). Hover over a link to see where it goes. A picture shows as its description. The HTML you copy has real links and pictures, only for http, https, mailto, tel or relative addresses.
Which Markdown is supported?
GitHub Flavored Markdown (GFM), read by the marked library: headings, nested lists, numbered lists, task lists - [x], tables (aligned left, right or centre), strikethrough ~~text~~, code blocks, quotations, rules and automatic links. Footnotes, maths and diagrams are not supported.
Good to know
- Code blocks are shown as plain monospaced text, with no syntax colouring.
- Files up to 5 MB open, but the preview may slow down with size.
- The marked library (MIT) is used only to read the structure, not to make HTML.
Your data stays on your device
Everything runs in your browser. What you type, paste or open is not sent to freesabai's servers or anyone else's, and is not kept in the browser: close the page and it is gone. The site only counts how many times this page was opened and how many times someone copied or saved a result (never what was pasted or the result, and you can switch the counting off in the footer; see the privacy policy).
