How to compress a PDF
- Choose a PDF file or drop it on the box.
- Pick a level (if unsure, use "Balanced").
- Press "Compress and save". If the new file is not smaller than the original it is not saved, and you are told.
Your files stay on your device
This tool opens the file from your device, draws and compresses it in your browser and saves the new file back to your device. Nothing is uploaded and no file is kept. Your original file is not changed.
Good to know
- Text in the new file cannot be selected or copied, because every page becomes a picture: it cannot be searched, and links and form fields are lost. To make it searchable again, run it through OCR.
- Best for files that are mostly scans or photos. A file that is mostly text is usually small already, and compressing it this way can make it larger.
- It cannot match services that recompress the pictures inside the file and keep the text. This tool draws each whole page again.
- Files locked with a password need to be unlocked first.
