Unlock a PDF
Type the PDF's password to save a copy that opens without one. It runs in your browser: neither the file nor the password leaves your device.
This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.
How to unlock a PDF
- Choose the password-protected PDF or drop it on the box.
- Type the file's password.
- Press "Unlock and save" to get a new file that opens without a password.
Your files stay on your device
This tool opens the file from your device, decrypts it in your browser's memory with the password you type and saves the new file back to your device. The password is not sent anywhere or kept.
Good to know
- You need the right password. There is no guessing mode and no way to skip the password: if it is lost, a strongly encrypted file cannot be recovered.
- A file that opens freely but cannot be printed or copied loses those restrictions only if you give the owner password that set them (an empty one will not do).
- Use it only on files you have the right to open and change. The new file has no password and no restrictions left.
- If the file is not locked, the tool tells you there is nothing to unlock.
