Image to SVG (vectorize)
Turn a PNG, JPG or other picture into an SVG that scales to any size without blur: logos, line art and flat cartoons, for screen printing, sticker cutting or signs. A photo comes out posterized, in bands of colour (a classic tracer, not AI). It runs in your browser and the files are sent nowhere.
Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.
How to use it
- Choose a picture or drop it in (PNG, JPG, GIF, BMP, WebP). It is traced at once, and the original and the SVG appear side by side.
- Adjust the colours, the line detail, the background, the edges between colours and the smoothing; the result follows every change (a large picture or many colours take several seconds).
- Press "Download SVG" (the original name with .svg) or "Download PDF" (one page the size of the picture, for cutting machines and print shops that take PDF).
Good to know
- Made for logos, line art and flat cartoons. The tool splits the picture into layers, one per colour up to the number you chose, and traces the outline of each layer as straight lines and curves. A photo or anything with gradients comes out posterized, in bands of colour. It is not AI: it does not guess missing lines or clean the picture up, and a blurry or tiny original gives ragged lines.
- Colours: 2 is black and white (line art, stamps, stencils); most logos want 4 to 8; more is closer to the original but larger and slower. Line detail: fine follows the pixel edges with many points, smooth uses fewer points for flowing lines and a smaller file. Smoothing blurs the picture a little before tracing, which takes the jaggies and the stray colours of a JPG out.
- Edges between colours: two neighbouring colours can show a hairline white gap where they meet, when enlarged or printed. "Widen by 1 px" adds a border of its own colour to every shape so the gap closes (the shapes get slightly fatter).
- Background: "Take out the colour at the edge" works from the edges inward and removes only that colour where it reaches the edge, so the same colour inside a shape (the white inside an O) stays. A PNG that is see-through already comes out see-through. Half-transparent parts (soft shadows, soft edges) become either solid or see-through. To take a background out without vectorizing, use Make the background transparent.
- Size: a picture over 2 million pixels is made smaller before tracing, because tracing is slow (the paths scale anyway, so the extra resolution would not help). The SVG has the picture's size in pixels and a viewBox, and opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Canva, Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio and browsers. The PDF is one page the size of the picture (1 pixel = 1 point). For the other direction (SVG to PNG) use SVG to PNG.
- The tracer is imagetracerjs (public domain); the libraries are listed on the credits page. Use it only with pictures you have the rights to: someone else's logo stays theirs after it is vectorized.
Your files stay on your device
Everything runs in your browser. The picture you choose and the SVG or PDF made are not sent to freesabai's servers or anyone else's, and nothing is kept in the browser: close the page and it is all gone. The site only counts that this page was opened and how many times a result was saved (no file names or contents, and you can turn counting off at the foot of the site; see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers
Can I turn a photo into an SVG?
You can, but it comes out posterized: bands of colour, as many as you chose. This is a classic tracer, not AI, and it is made for logos, line art and flat cartoons.
Why is there a thin white line between colours when I zoom in?
Each colour is traced as a shape of its own, and a hairline gap can show where two meet. Choose "Widen by 1 px to close gaps": every shape gets a border of its own colour and the gap closes.
Can I use the SVG with a sticker cutting machine?
Yes. The SVG has the picture's size in pixels and a viewBox, and opens in Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Studio, Inkscape and Illustrator. You can also download a one-page PDF the size of the picture.
