Split a GIF into frames

Open an animated GIF, see all its frames in a grid with the delay of each, choose the ones you want and save them as PNG one by one or in a ZIP. Every frame is the whole picture as it looks when the GIF plays. It runs in your browser and the files are sent nowhere.

Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a GIF. All its frames appear in a grid, each with its number and delay (milliseconds).
  2. Tick the frames you want (all are ticked at first), or use "Choose all" / "Choose none".
  3. Press "Save" under a frame for one PNG, or "Save the chosen frames as a ZIP" to get them all in one file.

Good to know

Your files stay on your device

Everything runs in your browser. The GIF and the frames made are not sent to freesabai's servers or anyone else's, and nothing is kept in the browser: close the page and it is all gone. The site only counts that this page was opened and how many times a result was saved (no file names or contents, and you can turn counting off at the foot of the site; see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers

Why do frames from other sites show only part of the picture?

Many GIFs store only what changes in each frame. This tool puts every frame together the way the GIF says before saving, so you get the whole picture as it plays.

Is a transparent background kept?

Yes. What is transparent in the GIF stays transparent in the PNG files; the grid shows it as a checkerboard.

How many frames can it split?

Up to 1,000 frames a file. Frames are kept as PNG in memory, so long GIFs work, but a GIF with very large pictures may not split on a phone.
