Extract audio from video

Take the sound out of an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video as MP3 or WAV, the whole of it or just a part. Listen before you save. It runs in your browser; the video is not sent anywhere.

Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is turned off or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop a video file. The page shows a preview and the full length.
  2. For just a part, type a start and an end as h:mm:ss (e.g. 1:05 or 0:01:05.5), or play the video to the right moment and press "Use this point as the start" or "as the end". Leave them empty for the whole video.
  3. Pick MP3 (small, plays anywhere) or WAV (uncompressed, for editing), press "Extract", listen, then "Save".

Good to know

Your files stay on your device

Everything runs in your browser (the encoding runs in a second thread of the browser, still on your device). The video and the audio you get are not uploaded to freesabai or anyone else, and nothing is kept in the browser: close the page and it is gone. The site counts only that this page was opened and how often a result was saved (no file names or contents, and you can turn counting off at the bottom of the site; see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers

How do I convert MP4 to MP3?

Choose the MP4 video, pick MP3, set a start and end if you like, and press Extract audio. Listen, then save. Everything happens in your browser; the video is not uploaded.

Why does it say there is no sound, or it cannot decode it?

The video may have no audio track, or its sound is AC-3 or DTS, which browsers cannot decode. Try Chrome or Firefox on a computer, or play the video and record it with Sound Catcher.

Can I extract only part of the audio?

Yes. Type a start and an end as h:mm:ss, or play the video to the right moment and press Use this point as the start or the end.
