Excel to CSV / JSON

Open an Excel file (.xlsx), pick a sheet, check the table, and save it as a CSV that keeps Thai and other scripts intact, or as JSON for your code. Every sheet can go into one ZIP in a click. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser and the file is not sent anywhere.

Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop an .xlsx file (an .xlsm file with macros works too: only the values are read, macros never run).
  2. Pick a sheet and check the first 100 rows in the table. Sheets hidden in Excel can be picked as well and are labelled.
  3. Pick the format: CSV for Excel (recommended, keeps Thai intact), CSV for Google Sheets, or JSON, then press "Save this sheet" or "Save every sheet as a ZIP".

Good to know

Already have a CSV whose Thai turns to garbage in Excel? Use Thai CSV that opens right in Excel. For the other direction use CSV / JSON to Excel, and to look at or convert a CSV further use the CSV viewer or CSV to JSON.

Your files stay on your device

Everything runs in your browser. The file you open is not sent to freesabai's server or anyone else's, and nothing is kept in the browser: close the page and it is gone. The site only counts that this page was opened and how many times a result was saved (never the file name or content; you can turn counting off at the bottom of the site, see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers

Why does Thai turn to garbage when I convert Excel to CSV?

Choose CSV to open in Excel (the default): the file is UTF-8 with a BOM, which Excel reads correctly. For Google Sheets or other programs choose the version without a BOM.

Can I convert every sheet at once?

Yes. Press Save every sheet as a ZIP to get one CSV or JSON file per sheet, named after the sheet, in a single ZIP. Chart sheets have no table and are skipped.

Why are formula cells empty or out of date?

Formulas are not recalculated: you get the values Excel saved last time. Some programs save no formula results; open the file in Excel, save it once and convert again.
