CSV / JSON to Excel

Turn CSV or JSON files into a real Excel workbook (.xlsx). Leading zeros stay, long ID numbers are not turned into 1.23E+12, Thai text reads right, and several files become several sheets of one workbook. Opens in Excel, Google Sheets and LibreOffice. Runs in your browser: your files are not sent anywhere.

Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If you still see this after a few seconds, JavaScript is switched off in your browser or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop .csv, .tsv, .txt or .json files; several at once is fine (each file becomes a sheet named after the file). Or paste text and press "Use the pasted text".
  2. Check the preview: right-aligned cells become numbers in Excel, the rest stay text. Tick "Keep every cell as text" if you want no numbers at all.
  3. Press "Save as Excel (.xlsx)" and open the file in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice.

Good to know

If you only need a CSV that opens in Excel with Thai intact, use Thai CSV for Excel. The other way round: Excel to CSV / JSON. To look at or convert CSV further: CSV viewer and JSON to CSV.

Your files stay on your device

Everything runs in your browser. The files and text you use are not uploaded to freesabai's servers or anyone else's, and nothing is stored in your browser; close the page and it is gone. The site only counts that this page was opened and how many times a result was saved (no file names or content, and you can turn counting off at the bottom of the site; see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers

Will the leading zeros of phone numbers survive?

Yes. Text starting with 0, whole numbers of 13 digits or more such as ID numbers, and values with + or e are kept as text. Tick Keep every cell as text to have no numbers at all.

Can I put several CSV files in one Excel workbook?

Yes. Choose several files at once: each becomes a sheet named after the file, shortened to 31 characters and without the characters Excel does not allow.

Does it work with JSON?

Yes: an array of objects (every key becomes a column, nested values are kept as JSON text) or an array of arrays. Paste it or choose a .json file.
