How to use it

  1. Choose the trim size, enter the page count and pick the paper that you chose in KDP.
  2. Read off the full cover size and the spine width, and have your designer or design program make an image of that size (at 300 dpi or more).
  3. Press "Download the cover template" for a PDF the size of the full cover with guide lines, to lay under your design.

How it is worked out

Spine width = page count × the paper's thickness per page (KDP: black-and-white on white paper 0.002252 in, cream 0.0025, standard colour 0.002252, premium colour 0.002347). Full cover width = trim width × 2 + spine + 0.25 in (0.125 in of bleed on each side). Height = trim height + 0.25 in (0.125 in of bleed top and bottom).

Your files stay on your device

Everything runs in your browser. What you enter and the template file is not sent to freesabai's server or anyone else's, and nothing is kept in the browser: close the page and it is gone. The site only counts that this page was opened and how many times a result was saved (never the file name or content; you can turn counting off at the bottom of the site, see the privacy policy).

Questions and answers

How is the spine width of a KDP book worked out?

The page count times the paper thickness per page. For 200 pages on white paper that is 200 × 0.002252 = 0.4504 in. Other papers differ in thickness.

How big is the full cover?

Twice the trim width plus the spine plus 0.25 in for bleed. The height is the trim height plus 0.25 in.

Do the numbers match KDP's?

They follow KDP's published specifications, which KDP can change. Check KDP's own cover calculator before every upload.
