ABC order worksheet

Type 5-20 words and get them mixed up for the child to put in alphabetical order: written on numbered lines, or cut out of dashed boxes and pasted into numbered spaces, a classic literacy center. English goes A-Z, Thai in dictionary order.

How to use it

  1. Type 5-20 words, one per line. The sheet appears on the right with the words mixed up; "New random sheet" mixes them again.
  2. Choose "Write on numbered lines" (the words in a box at the top, a line for each) or "Cut and paste" (each word in a dashed box to cut out, and numbered spaces to paste into).
  3. Press "Print / Save as PDF". The key lists the words in order.

Questions and answers

How are the words sorted?

English A-Z with the browser's own collation, ignoring capitals. Thai as the Thai dictionary: a word that starts with เ แ โ ใ ไ goes by the consonant after it, so กา, ข่า, เขา.

How does cut and paste work?

Each word sits in a dashed box to cut out, and below are numbered spaces from 1 to the number of words to paste them in order, a classic literacy center. The write layout has numbered lines instead.

How many words, and can I mix Thai and English?

5 to 20 words, one per line; repeated words are left out. Mixing works: with one Thai word in the list the Thai order is used, which puts Thai words before English ones.
