Crossword puzzle maker
Type your words with a clue for each, one pair per line, and get a crossword with the words laid out crossing each other: a numbered grid, the clues across and down, and an answer key with every square filled in. Thai and English words both work.

How to use it
- Type one pair per line, word = clue (or word, tab, clue when pasting from Excel), 5-20 lines. The puzzle appears on the right at once.
- "New random sheet" lays the words out another way. Tick "word bank" to list every word on the sheet. With no clues at all, the sheet is a criss-cross: the words go into the grid from the word bank.
- Press "Print / Save as PDF". The puzzle is the first page and the filled-in key the next.
Good to know
- Thai words: a square holds a consonant with the vowel above or below it and its tone mark (ดิ or ป๋); the vowels written before (เ แ โ ใ ไ) and after (ะ า ำ) take a square of their own, as in the word search. Two words can only cross on the same whole square, so ม and ม้ do not cross.
- Dozens of layouts are tried and the one with the most crossings and the smallest grid is kept. A word that shares no letter with the others cannot be placed: the page names it, so you can add words that share letters.
- The grid is at most 20 squares wide or tall. English words go in as capitals, a space inside a word is dropped, and repeated words are left out.
- The same list makes a missing letters sheet or a matching sheet.

Questions and answers
How do I type the words and clues?
One pair per line as word = clue, for example cat = A pet that says meow, 5 to 20 lines. Tab-separated columns pasted from Excel work too. With no clues at all the sheet becomes a criss-cross with a word bank.
Why can a word not be placed?
Each word has to cross another on a matching letter. Thai words only cross on the same whole cluster, so ม and ม้ do not match. The page names any word it could not place; add words that share letters.
Where are the answer key and the word bank?
The key is a page of its own with every square filled in and the answers listed across and down. Tick the word bank option to print the list of words on the sheet for the child to choose from.
