Spelling test template
A sheet for a spelling test: numbered lines to write on, 10 to 25 of them, or three-line handwriting rows for young children. Type the word list and you also get a page of the words for the teacher to read out.
Getting the tool ready…This tool needs JavaScript. If this message stays for more than a few seconds, JavaScript is turned off or the page did not load completely: turn JavaScript on or reload the page.
The sheet you make is yours: use it in class, print and sell it or sell the file, no credit needed. Everything is made in your browser; the words you type are not sent anywhere or kept, so they are gone when you close the page.
How to use it
- For blank lines only, clear the word list and choose 10, 15, 20 or 25 lines.
- Type the word list (one a line) and the sheet gets a line per word, plus a page of the words for the teacher. Tick "Shuffle the words" and press "New random order" for a different order each time.
- Press "Print / Save as PDF". Hand out the first page; keep the word list (untick it to leave it out).
Good to know
- Three-line rows have a top line, a dashed middle line and a base line, for children learning to write. Plain lines with 20 or more go in two columns to fit one page.
- The score line "Score ____ / 10" sits under the name line. The teacher's list is in large type, easy to read out.
- Nothing is saved: close the page and the list is gone. To practise writing the same words, use the handwriting sheets with your own words, or make a fill in the blank sheet.

Questions and answers
Can I leave the word list empty?
Yes. Clear the list and choose 10, 15, 20 or 25 lines for a blank numbered sheet you can reuse every week.
What is the teacher's page?
With a word list, the last page has the words in the order of the lines, in large type to read out. Tick shuffle and press New random order for another order; untick the print box to leave it out.
When should I use three-line rows?
For young children who are still learning letter sizes: a top line, a dashed middle line and a base line. Once they write well, plain lines fit more words on a page.
