Missing letters worksheet
Type your spelling words, one per line, and choose what to leave out: vowels, consonants or any letter (Thai tone marks too), 1 or 2 in each word. The missing letters become boxes to fill, for spelling practice in English or Thai.

How to use it
- Type 3-30 words, one per line. Choose what to leave out and how many letters in each word.
- Tick "letter bank" to list all the missing letters, mixed up, for the child to choose from. "New random sheet" leaves out other letters.
- Press "Print / Save as PDF". The key fills in the boxes and writes the whole word beside them.
Good to know
- English vowels are a, e, i, o and u; every other letter is a consonant. Thai vowels are the ones written before (เ แ โ ใ ไ), after (ะ า ำ), above and below a consonant; the tone marks are ่ ้ ๊ ๋. The silent mark ์ is never left out.
- Kept simple: a Thai vowel or tone mark written above or below is left out as a box in the line next to its consonant, not as a small box over or under it. In the letter bank and the key such marks sit on a dotted circle, like ◌่.
- A word without letters of the kind chosen is left out and named. Every word keeps at least one letter showing.
- Practise the same words with ABC order or scrambled words.

Questions and answers
What can be left out?
Vowels (a, e, i, o, u), consonants or any letter, 1 or 2 in each word; for Thai words also tone marks. Every word keeps at least one letter showing, and a word with no letter of the kind chosen is left out.
How are Thai marks above and below shown?
Kept simple: a missing mark is a box in the line after its consonant, not a small box above or below. In the letter bank and the key such marks sit on a dotted circle, like ◌่.
What is the letter bank?
The missing letters of all the words, mixed up, printed at the top of the sheet so younger children can choose from them. Untick it to make the sheet harder.
