Math drills: + − × ÷
Choose the kind of problem, the size of the numbers and how many, and get a fresh set of problems every time you press the button. Subtractions never go below zero, divisions always come out even, and "no carrying or borrowing" keeps it simple for beginners. The answer key has every problem worked out.

How to use it
- Choose the kind of problem, the size of the numbers, how many and the layout. The problems appear on the right at once; "New random sheet" gives another set from the same choices.
- For children who are just starting, tick "No carrying or borrowing": every column of an addition adds up to 9 or less, and a subtraction never needs to borrow from the next column.
- Press "Print / Save as PDF". The answer key is the last page (untick it to leave it out).
Good to know
- A 1-digit number is 1-9 (2-9 for multiplication and division, so there is no × 1), 2 digits is 10-99, 3 digits is 100-999. Both numbers are drawn anew for every problem, and no problem comes twice on a sheet as long as there are enough different ones.
- In a subtraction the first number is always the larger, so the answer is never negative. A division is made from a product, so it always comes out even: the divisor has the second size and the dividend the first.
- "No carrying or borrowing" applies to addition and subtraction only (also inside the mix); multiplication and division are unchanged.
- Columns suit written addition, subtraction and long multiplication; a line suits mental arithmetic. On a phone the sheet shows fewer columns, but it still prints across the whole A4 page.
- To practise one times table at a time, use the times tables maker.

Questions and answers
What does no carrying or borrowing mean?
In an addition every column adds up to 9 or less, so nothing carries over; in a subtraction every digit of the first number is at least the digit under it, so nothing is borrowed. Good for beginners.
Can a subtraction go below zero, or a division leave a remainder?
No. The first number of a subtraction is always the larger, and every division is made from a product, so it always comes out even.
Can I get new problems, and do they repeat?
Press New random sheet as often as you like. Problems on one sheet do not repeat as long as there are enough different ones, and the answer key has every answer.
